This page is dedicated to some of the things that inspire me-- the flora and fauna of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, and all the fun it is to be outside with nature. I live in Brightwood, Oregon in the southwest foothills of Mount Hood; located about 38 miles east of Portland at an elevation of 1100'. Forest woodland would be a good description of the territory, along with 'rain forest'. We get 2 to 3 times more annual rainfall than Portland! And this is one reason why it is so green-- all year long!

Some of these plants just grow in the yard, and some are natives in other parts of Oregon– but seem happy here.

The Trillium parviflorum is an unexpected plant in my yard, one that has been difficult to narrow down species-wise.
It is a sessile trillium (no stem between the leaves and the flowers) with white petals.
The plants emerge earlier than T. ovatum, but the flowers open later. The leaves are mottled and much larger than T. ovatum.
