SUE ALLEN is a printmaker, with a focus on screen printing. Artistic directions range from nature and organic order, to abstraction and geometry, and veers repeatedly toward the Japanese aesthetic and beauty. Other interests include photography and book arts. Her art is distinguished, refined, elegant, and unusual. Over the years she has exhibited widely, has done many shows and festivals, and has her work in numerous galleries and shops.

Sue comes from a family of architects, and received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from The Cooper Union in New York City. She spent 12 years at summer camp in New Hampshire, has traveled overland from Europe to Nepal to trek, and lived in Stowe VT in the early 1970s, where she first learned printmaking. Since 1981 she has made the forest foothills of Mount Hood home, where she enjoys nature in all her seasons, and can be creative and productive.

Clackamas County Arts Alliance

Between 2005-2017, and again since 2019, Sue has been the Artist Exhibit Program Manager at CCAA. She manages 18 galleries in 11 venues in Clackamas County that rotate artwork every 3 or 4 months. An annual call to county artists gives us a roster of about 50 accepted artists to curate through the gallery spaces. http://www.clackamasartsalliance.org

Some of her other interests include yoga (with a leaning toward Iyengar approach), being outside (whether it is managing her 'back 40', taking a walk in the woods, or hiking/snowshoeing in the Mount Hood area, and beyond), and she volunteers with her local CERT team (Hoodland Community Emergency Response Team).

SCREEN PRINTING is a stencil process where ink is squeezed through a porous screen that is partially blocked out, with only open areas printing. Each layer is "pulled" separately, and transparent inks can produce the illusion of another. Creating an original print goes from ideas, mockups, and final prep drawings, to making positives and screens and printing, to doing followup steps.
